Google Nexus Smartphones To Get Unlimited Original Quality Backup Storage

Google Photos Android app will reportedly receive a key update soon. The current version of this app, according to Google Play, is 1.20, which will be bumped to version 1.21. As it turns out, there’s an advantage for Nexus device owners.
Other than the regular update, Google has apparently added free, unlimited cloud storage for backup of photos and videos at the original image resolution to the app. However, this is applicable only to Nexus devices.
As of today, the free storage of Google can support photos up to 16-megapixel and videos up to 1080p. This clearly says Android device owners will not be able to upload 4K videos. With the upcoming Google Photos version 1.21, Nexus users will be able to save 4K videos as well. Not to forget, most high-end devices nowadays come with support for 4K video recording.
This news has been confirmed based on the APK teardown done by Android Police. However, readers should note that Google has not confirmed this report yet.
Apart from the unlimited storage, Google Photos version 1.21 will apparently bring in sorting modes specific to albums. The options are “newest first,” “oldest first” or “recently added.” To top it off, the update will also add photo editing options like Contrast and Exposure.

Website containing Sunny Leone's nude photos to be taken down?

Sunny Leone is controversy's favourite child. After being in the news for allegedly slapping a journalist, the actress is now making headlines courtesy nude photos of her on a website.
According to an Absolute News India report, an activist from the Hindu Jana Jagruti Samiti has lodged a complaint with Thane Police Commissioner Parambir Singh demanding that the website be shut down. It has been learnt that the officials had earlier requested the company to bring down the portal, but they are yet to respond.
This isn't new or even shocking given how the actress has often been pulled up for once being a part of the adult entertainment industry. For instance, journalist Bhupendra Chaubey in an interview had osed her questions that were considered way out of the line, and not very tasteful.
Some of the questions asked were: "How many people think of growing up to become a porn star?," "Bobby Khan, the director of his film 'Ek Paheli Leela,' said a lot of big stars didn't want to work with you," and "So you would want to work with Aamir Khan but Aamir wouldn't work with you. How does that reflect on you then?"
She kept her calm through the interview and was poised. Working with Shah Rukh Khan in "Raees" and hobnobbing with Aamir and his family — Sunny and husband Daniel Weber were invited to an intimate dinner party — are being seen as fitting answers to the questions.
On the work front, Sunny's "One Night Stand" opened in theatres on May 6. Her upcoming films are "Beiimaan Love" and "Tina & Lolo."

Facebook, Microsoft planning undersea cable across Atlantic to expand internet infrastructure

Virtual/augmented reality (VR/AR) was probably the last time Microsoft and Facebook were spoken about in the same breath -- the HoloLens is Microsoft's AR project and Facebook owns VR tech firm Oculus. Now, the two tech titans are joining hands to connect the world through an undersea cable.
The undersea cable will be called MAREA, which means "Tide" in Spanish, and will run across the floor of the Atlantic Ocean. The cable will be used by Microsoft and Facebook to help meet the growing customer demand for high speed, reliable connections for cloud and online services that Microsoft and Facebook's customers are demanding, Microsoft announced in a blog post.

New brain scanning tool to predict if patients in vegetative state will ever wake up

Many people who are brain-injured and live in the gray area between life and death -- often called a vegetative state -- are usually left in hospitals, with doctors clueless about whether such patients would ever regain consciousness.
But this might change soon as a study conducted by University of Copenhagen has highlighted that doctors can use a simple brain scan device to predict whether such patients would wake up ever, according to a STAT report.

Half of Indian girls don't know about menstruation until they get their first period: Study

In India, nearly half the girls don't know about menstruation until they get their period for the first time, a recent research has showed. The study, published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ) in March, 2016, involved 100,000 adolescent girls, among which only half the girls knew about menstruation before they got their periods.
According to the study, the use of sanitary napkins was more prevalent among girls in urban areas than among those in rural areas. Inadequate disposal of used pads was widespread. The study also found that menstruating girls in India faced many religious restrictions.
Despite women spending a considerable part of their lives menstruating, it turns out that most of them still consider periods as taboo. According to UNICEF, menstruation is still not talked about. It can be seen as dirty or impure and the silence around it can lead to a lack of knowledge, which can generate damaging misconceptions, the UNICEF said in an official statement.
Although May 28 is observed every year as Menstrual Hygiene Day, and is aimed to raise awareness among men and women, a research done by Carla Pascoe from the University of Melbourne said that menstrual blood is still a cause of embarrassment to many women, ABC.net reported.
Pascoe studied the changing attitudes of women towards menstruation over the past century by interviewing women across various age groups, and found one thing constant — period shame. She, however, said that over the years, the taboo has become subtle and complex.
She also said that although hygiene seems to be no longer an issue among women, as most of them are now familiar and equipped to manage 'that part of the month,' women however still feel the need to hide their blood stains, and used tampons.
Pascoe's research identified that the single most factor that determines the reason behind period shame is that money can still be made by promising women effective ways to hide period blood. "If you analyze the advertisements from sanitary product companies, most of them are 'buy our product because we can offer you a more effective way to conceal menstruation'," Pascoe was quoted by ABC.net as saying.
The study also found that women could go to any length to hide their period blood.
"Women told me if they go to someone's house and there is no bin in the bathroom, they would bundle up a pad or tampon into toilet paper and stick it in their bag and take it home — these are grown women," she said.
The study's findings raise an alarm, especially when various international agencies have been urging women to adopt a more confident attitude towards menstruation.

Box office collection: 'The Angry Birds' records better opening day earnings than 'Phobia,' Veerappan' and 'Waiting

Hollywood has taken over Bollywood at the box office once again. Hollywood film "The Angry Birds" opening day box office collection is better than the combined collection of three new releases "Phobia," "Waiting" and "Veerappan."
"The Angry Birds," which took off with mixed to negative reviews, minted Rs. 2.16 crore from the Indian box office. The 3D computer-animated action-adventure comedy film had a good opening because it is based on the popular video game series "Angry Birds.
"Hollywood dominates yet again... #TheAngryBirdsMovie Fri ₹ 2.16 cr nett. India biz," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
While "The Angry Birds" received mixed reviews, Bollywood film "Phobia," "Waiting" and "Veerappan" opened to mixed to good reviews, but failed to engage moviegoers at the box office.
"Phobia" features Radhika Apte in the lead role and the storyline focuses on agoraphobia – fear of wide, open spaces. "Waiting" is a comedy drama featuring Naseeruddin Shah and Kalki Koechlin in the lead role, while "Veerappan," which is a biographical film based on the life of the notorious bandit Veerappan, featured Sandeep Bharadwaj in the titular role.
Since the hype was low, the opening day occupancy also reflected the same, which resulted in disastrous collection. According to Koimoi.com, none of the three films managed to earn even Rs. 1 crore from the domestic box office.
This is not the first time a Hollywood film dominated the Indian box office, despite a plethora of new releases. "The Jungle Book," "X-Men: Apocalypse" and "Captain America: Civil War" ruled at the Indian box office, while Bollywood films trailed behind them.

China ready to send nuclear-powered submarines into Pacific Ocean

Beijing has decided to send nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines into the Pacific Ocean in view of the expansion of the missile defence system of the United States, the Guardian reported. The Chinese military has confirmed the patrol, which is said to be the first, but the timing remains unconfirmed.
However, the Pentagon's annual report on Chinese military developments, dated May 18, said: "China will probably conduct its first SSBN nuclear deterrence patrol sometime in 2016.
The U.S.-developed hypersonic glide missiles capable of hitting China within an hour of the launch and the deployment of Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) in South Korea are the reasons for starting a patrol, the Chinese military said, adding that these were huge threats to China.
However, the Chinese government under the leadership of President Xi Jinping has reiterated that the country would not be the first to use the nuclear weapons, which is being developed only as a deterrent.

Salman Khan's 'Sultan' trailer crosses 1 lakh YouTube likes; will it beat Shah Rukh Khan's 'Fan'?

Salman Khan's "Sultan" has already started making records. Its trailer was released on May 24, and has crossed 1 lakh likes on YouTube in just three days.
The trailer of Salman's upcoming movie became an instant hit with over 70 lakh views on YouTube on its third day. While the number of views is increasing rapidly, the most striking thing about the video is the number of likes it has been receiving.
With over 1 lakh likes already, the "Sultan" trailer is definitely one of the most-liked Bollywood trailers on YouTube. Other most-liked Bollywood trailers of recent times include Shah Rukh Khan's "Fan." Directed by Rahul Dholakia, "Fan" had its trailer released on Feb. 29 this year and had received over 1.7 lakh likes on YouTube.
The "Fan" trailer has also received over 13,000 dislikes till date, while the "Sultan" trailer has been disliked by a little over 6,500 viewers. So, it appears to be a close contest between the two trailers in terms of the number of "likes" and "dislikes."
Another trailer of a Shah Rukh Khan movie, "Dilwale," is ahead of "Sultan" as far as "likes" are concerned. That trailer came out on Nov. 9, 2015, and has been liked by over 1.5 lakh viewers. But it was also "disliked" by over 23,000 viewers.
It will be interesting to see if the trailer of "Sultan" turns out to become the most-liked Bollywood trailer on YouTube, beating "Fan" and "Dilwale." Two other film trailers that appear in the list of most-liked Bollywood movie trailers are "Kick" (a little over 1 lakh likes) and "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" (over 1.14 lakh likes), and both starred Salman.
Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, "Sultan" presents Salman as a wrestler and also features Anushka Sharma. Being one of the most awaited movies of 2016, the film will be released on Eid this year.
